profitably even by paying remunerative cane price. Vaidyanath
S.S.K is also planning to utilize the by products for better
profitability; it has now established a multi feed, multi
product distillery. It will produce RS, ENA and Ethanol either
from molasses or secondary juice. This is a novel project,
first of its kind in India. Sugar Technology Mission Dept
of Science & Technology, Govt of India has approved the
project of juice ethanol. The juice to Ethanol project is
on experimental basis. We are confident that it will definitely
be a successful one, which will pave a way to others to follow.
A number of sugar factories are keenly watching the results.
It will be an ideal unit to strengthen the financial position
of the sugar factory, which is facing financial crisis due
to excess sugar production continuously during the preceding
three years. There has been a fall in sugar prices by Rs.
250-300 per quintal. As a consequence, many of the sugar mills
may not be able to pay even the statutory minimum cane price.
The
sugar industry is passing through unprecedented financial
crisis due to excess stock of sugar, which cannot be exported
now due to the prevailing war conditions.
To
overcome present financial difficulties it is absolutely necessary
to give attention to better utilization of by products. Vaidyanath
has therefore established a distillary with juice to ethanol
project. This will enable to utilize the molasses in a profitable
manner. It is also proposed to establish a Bagasse based co
generation unit, which will produce 15 MW electricity. The
project has been cleared by MSEB & MERC.

S.S.K has been recognised by VSI as "The most innovative
sugar mill in the state," in the first year of its operation
itself.
One
of its innovative projects is to run a sick unit most successfully
& profitably. The govt. of Maharashtra has decided to
liquidate Godavari Dudhana SSK Ltd, which Vaidyanath SSK Ltd
took over on lease, in the month of Dec 2002. Immediately
within a fornight after taking over of the mill in liquidation,
started the sugar production and crushed sugar cane at an
average daily crushing rate of more than 1500 MT as against
its capacity os 1250 TCD.
The
sugar recovery of the mill is the highest in Marathwada region.
VSSK have retained the entire present staff of Godavari Dudhana
SSK Ltd, no salary was paid to them during the last 5 years
by the entire management but after taking over by VSSK all
of them are paid regular monthly salaries in every month.
The govt of Maharashtra is thinking to lease all mills in
liquation on this pattern.
VSSK
is an ISO 9001-2000 certified organisation maintaining quality
standard and quality system in every sphere. This has contributed
to the success and growth of the unit. A sugar factoey is
the epic-centre of overll growth in rural area. Vaidyanath
SSK has also contributed to the upliftment of the sugar cane
growers.
We
hope the Got of India's proposed bill to amend the Essential
Commodities Acts and to include sugar in Ninth Schedule of
the Constitution will regulate the sugar releases and improve
the sugar rates moderately to tide over the financial difficulties
and to pay remunerative cane prices to the sugar cane growers.
